Continuing on from yesterday’s post on Start of Year Again (SoYA) event held at the Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP), we now move on to our next event which is the Cosplay Challenge 2009.. Organised by the Singapore Cosplay Club (SCC), this event was held on the very same day as SoYA, showcasing about the same thing from cosplayers to booths which sells alot of goodies for everyone..

But what separates this event from SoYA is the World Cosplay Summit exhibition displaying beautiful ‘weapons’ such as Saber’s Excalibur and costumes from animes like Chobits, Inuyasha and even Sakura Taisen. There is also a Cosplay Challenge competition which has cosplayers battle it out to see who will get 1st place..

Well, apart from the World Cosplay Summit and the wonderful displays of cosplay outfits, there are still some cosplayers who attended the nice event.. Without further ado, I would like show you some of the shots I took during the event..

I hope you enjoy looking at the photos.. Sadly, I wasn’t around to take more shots of the event because I left the event area at about 5pm to attend a dinner by my friends.. However, I do get a chance to meet up with some of my cosplaying friends who cosplayed quite well and also beautifully during the Cosplay Challenge..

Although it is quite weird to attend 2 events on one single day, I still enjoyed myself there.. =3

Edit: It isnt called WCS competition but instead it is simply called Cosplay Challenge competition.. Thanks to Inuran for telling me about my mistake.. =3

I actually °|¯|_ when I realized that there would be 2 events of the same thing that day!!! I am floored, because I was thinking of following you. (But hey, S$10 entrance fee…)

Thanks for the picture bips. Didn’t expect to have post-up banners detailing each of the cosplay costumes. (I didn’t know our cosplay culture had mainstream cred.)

  • Zhlink says:

    Wow, really nice cosplayers there..
    Kinda wished I was there.

  • Tommy says:

Seem like a nice event to be attended but I live in Malaysia. Overall of the pictures above Chii is the most stand out from the others and Maka from Soul eater also not quite bad.

  • Garion says:

Hey Fariz! This is Garion here whom you met just before you left the Cosplay Challenge…I was with Usagi and ur friend borrow my DSLR for a tryout, remember?

Anyways yeah the Vocaloid video from NicoNico I was talking abt can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPgQy2z7PM0

The song is called “smooooch・∀・” and taken from Beatmania IIDX. Very cute video with brilliant animation!

Nice meeting u and hope to see u again! :)

  • Fariz Asuka says:

@ TP: Well,I didnt mind paying the $10 to catch the Cosplay Challenge cosplay competition.. Besides, I got some Hatsune Miku artworks from the event too.. xD

Yup, I didn’t expect the World Cosplay Summit display to be there too either.. It was good to see some new stuff being put up..

    @ Zhlink: Well, at least there some good cosplayers at SoYA.. I didn’t get more shots from there since I left the area early.. =_=;;

@ Tommy: Hahaha.. Thanks Tommy.. Yeah, overall, I find Chii’s pictures to be one of the best I’ve taken so far.. ^^

  • MrMayat says:

Hmm… why are people crowding around the perimeter instead of sitting down at the empty chaired area in the 1st pic?

Looks like a low turn-out rate for this event. But that also means “cleaner” photos.

  • Fariz Asuka says:

@ MrMayat: Actually, there weren’t any chairs in front of the stage but there were quite a number of people who were sitting in front of it.. I was just plain unlucky to get the back spot where everyone is standing to watch the cosplay competition.. ^^

  • TheFuzzy says:

Too bad I couldn’t go; I had stuff to do. :(

Those costumes on exhibit look cool…but then again, it’s probably second nature to cosplay experts. Heh.
