Time for Yui to get a real guitar.

My head asplode

The episode starts off with Yui re-introducing everyone else in the light music club and exploring their reasons for forming it. Mio overloads thinking about becoming the lead guitarist. o.o

Mio reminds them that Yui has yet to get her guitar, so Ritsu decides to drag everyone along to the music store to get one.

Yui realises she’s a bit short from the 50,000 yen she needs for the next day (for a decent guitar at least), and since she can’t use the club fund, she tries to scrounge up as much as possible back at home.

Piggy banks? Nope.

Little sister fund? Nope.

Beg the mother? Oh yes.

Road safety fail

The next day, Yui meets the rest at the ‘city, though she gets distracted while crossing the road. The gang also manage to sidetrack quite a bit. Once again, Mio ends up reminding them that they need to get Yui the guitar.

Finally, in the music store, Yui ends up preferring a very expensive guitar (5 times her first target), and just because it looked cute to her, mind you. Mio and Ritsu recall just how much thought and effort they put in for their instruments, and Ritsu admits she gave the store assistant a hard time bargaining. Tsumugi gets curious and asks what that’s all about, to which Ritsu replies that it’s “something admirable”. XD

Ritsu suggests that all of them take jobs to help Yui out. Yui initially protests, but the rest ignore her, while Mio worries over what exactly they should be doing for money.

My head asplode again

The club holds another meeting to job hunt, and while Mio has another overload scene, Ritsu finds a job advert about a traffic examiner. Just count the cars that pass by and the moolah’s yours.

:O

They meet up for work, and after a picnic (which isn’t shown, strangely enough for a slice-of-life) Tsumugi and Yui start off the first shift, and Yui (finally) discovers how Tsumugi resembles a princess.

The day continues, and they have a picnic break (again!). Ritsu and Mio discover that they can’t stop counting things, including the clouds that pass by. Yui confirms this afterwards, when her thumb starts twitching before they leave.

After the montage, our heroines grab their pay off their employer, and give all of it (32,000 yen in total) to Yui. She declines it, saying they should use the money they earned for themselves, and that she’ll just buy a more affordable guitar.

The girls return to the music store, and Yui is once again attracted to the “kawaii” guitar. Ritsu starts to suggest that the club members find another job when Tsumugi tells them to hang on and heads over to the counter. She asks for a discount, which totally surprises the store assistant.

I have the eyebrows, now gimme my discount

He immediately recognises the girls eyebrows, realising she’s the daughter of the company’s president. He offers Tsumugi an initial discount, but she forces him to lower it (in such an innocent fashion too, poor guy). Yui walked home with the guitar and only a 50k yen hole in her wallet. That’s a 80% discount, folks.

Yui gets all excited about her guitar that she falls asleep next to it, and completely forgets to practise. In the clubroom, Yui gets all emotional when Ritsu tears off the plastic protection sticker off her new guitar, but the rest find out she recovers easily when offered food. Yui thanks Ritsu for showing her that it would be a shame not to play the guitar properly, and proceeds to hook it up to an amplifier for a try.

She didn’t know that amplifiers have very loud feedback though.

SATSUGA-oh wait we did that last week

Ritsu also declares that their aim is to perform at the Budokan (!!) before graduation, to which the other members feel nervous about. No kidding, they have a long, long way to go.

My thoughts?

So far…so good. This episode reveals a great amount of the general plot, and there’s no decay of quality (yet), but I can’t say the animation’s stellar, especially after watching an episode of Eden of the East. We’re also shown more background info behind the 4 girls and their instruments (except for Tsumugi’s, it’s obvious she’s rich enough to get any model she wants).

MOE~

Mio also has a lot of moe moments this episode, and we get to see some “chibi moments” when she has her overload. For a mature girl, she’s more fragile than she looks. Surprisingly, Yui doesn’t use the word, instead utilising the (relatively) normal “kawaii”.

Next episode’s about a big test. I wonder how long it’ll be before the club gets its fifth member…

Also, the ED didn’t seem to change in any way. Eh, the current ED’s still awesome anyway.

Stay tuned next week ~

Oh and also note the screenshots (now and in the future) are slightly altered with a video filter. Anything for sharper images. XD
