I’ve had the unfortunate burden pleasure of organising 2 separate trips to Cuppage Plaza’s Cash Studio recently for some karaoke, mostly Japanese and definitely out-of-tune.
The first was on the 13th of June, and it was meant solely for the bunch of us who met over the MINDEF eFourms (while slacking on the job of course.. just don’t tell my ex-boss). It was also partly to have a mini celeberation for our dear friend scorio aka Nicol, who has returned to civilian status as of the date of this post. In all, there were 5 of us who had all 3 hrs to ourselves.
And so our resident photographer with the big-ass D90, Lip Wee, also known as Amano-something on sgcafe (go search.. I refuse to use that forum unless there are pictures to leech) decided to go all Krauser II on us. To be honest he did do an ok job being Negishi’s alter ego with SATSUGAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!
There is a video taken of me TRYING (and failing) to sing Mizuki Nana’s Discotheque, also known as the OP to Rosario + Vampire Capu2 on my Facebook page. I refuse to link my embarassment to the whole world. so if you happen to know me personally you can do the footwork yourself. There are also some pictures of me taken as well by Wilson and Nicol. I guess I need to find my forte when it comes to singing.
Being a sucker for more out-of-tune punishment, I organised another one today for those who happened to be on school holidays or waiting for university entry. We scored a mini coup by getting the Ilya cosplayer from AFA 08 to join us, but sadly, she didn’t sing at all, much to the aghast of Double,CI, Stifler, fishz, Hirito, yumeno and me.
Now the reason for JIBUN WO as the post title:
Somehow, when CI is involved in these karaoke sessions, “COLORS” by Flow seems to always get picked. He would then proceed to shout “JIBUN WO” and then mumble the rest of the lyrics (YOU KNOW IT’S TRUE CI). I think it has sort of becomed an internal meme or something among us.
Me? I stuck to my usual routine of a mix of Mizuki Nana songs and other assorted anime-based themes. I invoked more of May’n today when I got to sing her portion in “Lion”, got brutally murdered on “Northern Cross”, didn’t do too well on “Infinity” and did decent on “Diamond Crevasse”.
There is a running joke that CI will strip of whatever pants that he is wearing when singing the OP to Strike Witches. Thankfully, that did not happen even when he was mumbling through the song. =D
One sad thing is that the DAM machine that our room had wasn’t the most updated. I think it’s accurate up to Nov 2008 throughout the outlet, but even then, there are missing gaps even though the numbers can be found in the books provided. SO.. if anyone knows of a better place to get a regular fix of Japanese Karaoke, please do comment. I personally want to sing Mizuki Nana’s Shin Ai more than anything now. EPIC SONG IS EPIC
Flaws aside, I’d definitely go back again, assuming i can get enough people to go the next time. I’ve yet to here SqueeX sing Satsugai.

Also, needs more OLIVIA songs. And yes, we need to get SqueeX to sing Satsugai.
