Somehow it didn’t surprise me KyoAni changed the ending, since following the manga through and through would’ve pissed a lot of fans off.

But first, an episode summary.

Yui has caught the swine flu, no thanks to Sawako’s cosplay “fever” (which spreads to the entire club temporarily) which causes Yui to catch the bug from wearing a yukata in bed.

The band worries over this, to the point that Azusa begins to emo about not being able to perform with Yui. Ui makes an attempt to replace Yui, but ends up playing even better than her older sister, with less practice to boot.

Yui herself makes an appearance, but collapses from her sickness and returns home (with Ui’s help to rest). She manages to return on the day of the performance itself, wearing Sawako’s yukatas modified for “cold resistance”.

She forgets her guitar, however, and rushes home to retrieve it, while Sawako takes her place for the first song during the performance. She makes it as it finishes, and reclaims her place as the club’s lead guitarist. Cue final performance sequence here, and a too-sudden ending.

I’m relieved the animation studio didn’t go for a shitty performance like the manga did. Could you imagine? The amount of otaku rage would go through the roof. We all know how everyone was longing for a full final performance with Azu-nyan (though she didn’t end up wearing the cat ears. Shame.).

(Y)Ui did a really good job being her sister, but failed ultimately when it came to nicknames. And breast sizes, according to Sawako. No, I cannot tell either.

Azusa x Yui moment. <3

Yui’s dream was wtf. I mean, pickled radishes? Holy crap. Then again if wearing pickled radishes means I get free band equipment + cost of maintenance then count me in.

Once again K-ON! demonstrates that adults don’t give a damn about what you do. Yui actually goes to Nodoka’s house. Alone. And fills their bathtub with lobsters. And Nodoka’s parents don’t even seem to notice.

Surprisingly, no special music video accompanying the performance this time (unless you count the whole “Yui running to school” thing). Aww. :(

I also noticed the lack of animation quality really began to show here. The face proportions just felt…wrong. And no, that is not some “special” animation style.

Overall though, good finale for the “series of the season”. I was only disappointed to see the sudden end of the episode, but was happy to see they still have another episode to go through before finally putting the series to rest.

Yeah, this probably means I’ll just merge the series review with the last episodic. And then it’s time to grab another new anime to review.

And hopefully something not as overhyped. :3
