The initial trigger for this post was like over a week ago, but I’ve only found the motivation to post about it only today. Heh. Please don’t say I’m Lazy. LOL

It all started from a Facebook chat pop-up initiated by my Japanese teacher at Bunka. I added my teacher, so yeah, whatever. He then proceeded to talk to me about Bunka’s upcoming anniversary dinner somewhere in August. As part of the event, there is a karaoke competition where contestants MUST sing in Japanese. What did you expect, this is not American Idol where you see some homosexual sing in English.

This is where I come in. He asked me to join because he taught I could do a good job. But what sent my suspicion radar OVER 9000 was the fact that a friend of mine, recently uploaded a video of me singing that Discotheque in the god-awful out-of-tune voice. NO DON’T LOOK. Then he ended the chat asking me to think about it.

Then the following Sunday, during lesson, he proceeded to pass me an entry form for said competition. OMG TIZ IZ SRZ BZNS NAO.

Contestants will be judged on the following criteria:

  1. Singing Ability <- ???
  2. Appearance <- Not so sure
  3. Stage Presence <- No Effing Clue
  4. Pronunciation <- I think this one I have the most confidence in

Also, contestants will need to audition with 1 song of your own choosing, with no background music provided. Now these puts me into a spot of bother. Firstly, I don’t think I’ve completely memorised any song 100%. Secondly, when I sing, it’s either with the music with original vocals, or the music and words on some TV screen.

Seems like they will shortlist 10 people to sing on the day of the actual anniversary dinner. Every finalist will get a prize, just not sure what the top prize is.

SO… I’ve actually given this some serious thought. This is my current shortlist of songs that I MIGHT sing if I do decide to sign up. My teacher expects me to pass him the form completed at the next lesson this weekend which is like 2 days away o(>_<)o

  • Shin Ai – Mizuki Nana
  • Toki Wo Kizamu Uta – Lia
  • Diamond Crevasse – May’n

Yes, I know all of them are of anime origins, but they are the ones I have most confidence in. I certainly can’t hit the pitches Utada Hikaru can hit. I’m not even sure if I’d croak on Nana’s higher-pitched songs. Also, I think these songs are easy enough to memorise by heart, thus negating the need of background music.

I’d update again when I’ve made my decision.

If I do….

俺の歌うきけ!!!
