As usual, lets move on to some of the songs in Vocaloid Weekly #57:

26 – 【Liwon？】初音ミクさんが歌う【ライウォン】: A very catchy Hatsune Miku song.. Although there isn’t any good video/animation, it is just a simple video of the graph playing along with Hatsune Miku’s pitch and tone when she is singing.. The music was soothing though I do prefer giving it a rock tune to make it sound more interesting.. ^^
07 – 【VOCALOIDオリ曲】ハロウィンモンスタァパーティナイト: The first Halloween song that I like in Vocaloid Weekly #57.. Even though the song went through once (no repeat of the lyrics), I do find the song very cool and interesting.. I do love it when they put all of the original Vocaloid characters to sing in the video itself..
06 – 【神威がくぽ・鏡音レン】全裸で書いたラブレター【バナナス・PV付】: Another weird video, this time only Gackpoid himself, has appeared on the Vocaloid Weekly list.. Even though it has the same weirdness as 【初音ミク】よっこらせっくす【鏡音リン・レン】, I find this song very hilarious for real.. I ROFL-ed at the part where he keeps pestering Kagamine Len.. This song is given a +1 internetz from me.. xD
05 – 初音ミクオリジナル曲 「Eve」: Another song by OneRoom, this song is made as the opposite to the song 初音ミクオリジナル曲 「Adam」.. Well, 初音ミクオリジナル曲 「Adam」isn’t really sung by any Vocaloid guys; both songs are sung by Hatsune Miku herself.. I find this two songs very unique since they talk about each other’s feeling towards the other side.. The tune for 初音ミクオリジナル曲 「Eve」 is very soothing and very relaxing.. I have added these 2 songs into my iPod Shuffle playlist..
04 – 【初音ミク】 Showered 【オリジナル曲】: A very lovely song by Hatsune Miku.. I find the song very nice and heartwarming.. I love the pretty flowers as the backdrop of the video itself.. I do love the way Hatsune Miku looks.. She looks very pretty indeed.. I seriously need to find the artist who drew her.. ^^

And now moving on to the TOP 3 songs:

3rd Place – 初音ミク「赤い実はじけた」【オリジナル曲】: One of the few Hatsune Miku songs which I love in Vocaloid Weekly #57.. This song starts out as a very monotonous tune but quickly changes to a very hip and catchy song.. I especially love the chorus, very beautifully-made with the nice tune playing along with the song.. This song is also added into my iPod since it can relieve stress during my work.. ^^
2nd Place – 【鏡音リンレン】trick and treat【オリジナル曲】: A song by the ever famous OSTER Project, I felt amazed when I listen to the song.. I find the song very mesmerizing and catchy.. I love the whole video; simple yet eye-catching.. Obviously I know this song going to get 1st Place due to its Fan-Base and their very good songs, especially this song.. A MUST to listen to this song..
1st Place – 自作音源で自作曲を演奏してみた/半導体娘計画【新番組】: A very… Educational song about making of a cute led banner of Hatsune Miku doing the Levan Polkka.. The Project in the video was called the Semicon Maiden Project which I think is the project I was talking about.. Although the video was boring, I do find the song quite nice actually.. Well, nuff said.. xD

Even though Halloween has already passed like a few days ago, I do find it that this year the special occasion was much more livelier than before.. Well, Im not sure why but more people nowadays dress up or the occasion.. Anyway, the Vocaloid Weekly is filled with nice Halloween songs, especially 【鏡音リンレン】trick and treat【オリジナル曲】.. I do hope we get to see more of those songs in the future..

Well, don’t forget about the hilarious song 【神威がくぽ・鏡音レン】全裸で書いたラブレター【バナナス・PV付】.. It was filled with hilarious moments in the video itself that I laughed almost every single time when Gackpoid do some weird and funny things.. Seriously, that song is worth watching for the lolz..

Well, lets take a look at this week Top Winner & 1 best song of the week:

04 – 【初音ミク】 Showered 【オリジナル曲】

When something becomes awfully popular, people will start basing a lot of characters off of it eventually.

Especially when the said popular object happens to be a moe vocal synthesizer that’s extremely customizable.

(VOCALOID-ism Part 3)

I could go and list every one of them ever made, but that’s like listing every species of fish living in the ocean. Submitting a post of that length could probably kill WordPress, so I won’t do that.

Note that this picture isn’t complete. O.o

Instead, I’ll list the more prominent ones here, then maybe shoot off some of the less prominent ones that I’m aware of, then as for the rest of lot, Google’s your best friend.

Hachune Miku

Probably the first spinoff, this chibi-sized Miku debuted in the most popular Miku viral of all time: Ievan Polkka.

VOCALOID2 初音ミクに「Ievan Polkka」を歌わせてみた
[vodpod id=ExternalVideo.702156&w=425&h=344&fv=%26rel%3D0%26border%3D0%26]
Nico

Hachune appears in many other Miku videos as well, usually as comedic relief. Take ハト (pigeon) for instance:

【初音ミク】ハト【PV】
[vodpod id=ExternalVideo.702157&w=425&h=344&fv=%26rel%3D0%26border%3D0%26]
Nico

Obviously, Hachune has no voice of her own, though she has that signature face and leek swinging.

Yowane Haku

Haku’s a mascot for all the failure Miku song creators out there; those yet unable to produce anything more than a mechanical-sounding voice out of Miku. To quote a source:

Yowane Haku (弱音ハク) – Her name means “Speaking weak words” (‘Speaking’ here has connotation of a pent up sigh or muttering). She gets her start from a thread in 2chan where a user commented “I bought Hatsune Miku for her cute looks but no matter how hard I try, I can’t get anything better than mechanical sounding songs out of her. An artist took this and ran with it to create Yowane Haku, an alter ego of all unskilled users of Hatsune Miku. Haku is a sad Vocaloid who just can’t sing as well as Miku. She is always crying because of her frustration and vents her frustration by drinking. Her image colors are silver and purple. Her character item is a sake bottle.

So in short, Haku’s a depressed VOCALOID (or rather, VOYAKILOID) who drinks and emos all over the place. She’s one of the most popular spinoff, appearing in a lot of fanart. This might be the original artist, but I can’t be sure, since a lot of people draw fanart of her anyway.

【弱音ハク】「voyakiloid」 song by 弱音ハク
[vodpod id=ExternalVideo.702155&w=425&h=344&fv=%26rel%3D0%26border%3D0%26]
Nico

She doesn’t seem to sound that much different from Miku…but maybe that’s just me. She’s usually seen holding that sake bottle of hers (does it ever empty?).

Akita Neru

Akita Neru (亞北ネル, which sounds like “I’m tired. Gonna go to sleep.”) was came about when a 2chan user began trolling Hatsune Miku (and all other VOCALOID) threads on the board. A user commented that he wouldn’t get angry if the troll happened to be a cute girl, and hence (thanks to some artist) Neru was born.

Source

Akita Neru’s an orangish-yellow character, famous for having only one of Miku’s twintails, and is usually depicted as a tsun-dere character, jealous of Miku’s success. She also carries a matching foldable cellphone around, and is sometimes depicted as having a crush on Kagamine Len.

Here’s a 3D PV of Neru, which seems to be scenes from a game (probably eroge):

【亞北ネル】伝えたいけど飽きた寝る【PV】
[vodpod id=ExternalVideo.702217&w=425&h=344&fv=%26rel%3D0%26border%3D0%26]
Nico

Zatsune Miku

Not much is known about Zatsune Miku (雑音ミク), but from what I can tell, she’s a sadistic VOCALOID. Her theme colours are black and red, though her costume appears to differ among artists. I don’t have any real song concerning her to show you though, sorry, so here’s more fanart to compensate:

Source: Piapro

Also sometimes depicted as evil.

Mikuo Hatsune

Source: Akibakko

Basically a male Miku. Not much difference, except for the fact that he has no twintails, and wears pants instead of a skirt. No video here either.

Kasane Teto

My personal favourite.

Kasane Teto (重音テト) is a little different from the other spin-offs mentioned above. Teto is actually voice data for a separate piece of software, UTAU, which in turn is a spin-off of the VOCALOID software. Teto was created as a prank on 2chan (“oh look, a new VOCALOID by Crypton wwwwwww”), but somehow she became popular on her own.

Kasane Teto has reddish-pink hair, with curly drill-like tails at the sides. Her matching costume has no tie or digital sleeve thingy, having lots of buttons instead. She’s also associated with french bread, or as we call it here, roti john, and is usually depicted as younger or more innocent than Miku.

【重音テト】旅の途中（仮）【UTAU】

Teto’s pitch is pretty high, to the point that some comment it as “chipmunk-like”. The words don’t blend well either, but then again, this was a 100% fan-made “VOCALOID”.

Oh, and it has its own page too here.

One last one:

BLACK ROCK SHOOTER

This one is different from the others too. It was never meant to be associated with Miku when it was created.

BRS is one of the characters drawn by an artist who goes by the nickname of huke. His art style happens to be gothic, by the way.

Anyhoo, ryo, a decent Miku song composer, saw huke’s BRS, and thought it resembled Miku (since any twin-tailed character must have been based on Miku >.>). ryo then approached huke with the idea to create a song for BRS using Miku’s voice.

huke agreed, and eventually, this music video was released:

初音ミクがオリジナルを歌ってくれたよ「ブラック★ロックシューター」
Nico

The video hit #1 in the VOCALOID weekly ranking instantly, and stayed up there for a few weeks. As of now, its position is simply fluctuating in the ranking itself, among ryo’s other creations.

As soon as Miku fans (including me) saw the video, some of them became BRS fans as well. More fanart of BRS started cropping up, some of which depicted Miku AS BRS, while others depicted her as a separate character. Some fanart below:

BRS’ theme is black; her coat and pants black, her…undergarments (which happen to be her only pieces of clothing besides the coat and pants) are black, and even her hair is black. Her skin is usually drawn as pale, and she posseses two weapons: a katana which she wields with her right hand, and a rocket launcher which is attached to her left when summoned. Her eyes are blue, and her left eye burns with a blue flame. Her coat also has a star crest, and she resembles Lenalee from D.Gray-man.

Well, that’s it then. I suppose you could scour the Internet in search of others like Hagane Miku and Iku Acme, or even the other non-Miku VOCALOID spin-offs. The possibilities are endless.

This will be the last of the VOCALOID-ism series, since this is about it for basic intros. I hope any VOCALOID newbie (which may include you) who read this had a great time doing so.

The next VOCALOID-related post may well be on the new joint blog, since we’re moving very soon!

And for the lulz:
